You are a child of God

One of the most incredible things about the Christian faith is that we have a God who is a perfect Father. John Stott, a well known Bible teacher wrote this: “If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all.”

God is our Father!

Read Romans 8:15-17

The word Abba is an Aramaic word (the language Jesus spoke) that can be used by a toddler and a grown adult. The closest English word is Papa. It describes an intimacy of relationship that we have with the Father – who is large and in charge of all creation and who knows even the smallest details about us including how many hairs we have on our heads!

Sometimes our earthly experience of fathers colours how we can perceive God as Father – perhaps your experience is non-existent, uncaring or even abusive. Or you may have a great dad who has modelled fatherhood well. Either way, Father God is perfect and so much more than our earthly fathers.

Pray: Thank you Father God for being our amazing father. Help me to know your love more and more, Amen

The Father heart of God (Floyd McClung)

I found this book about God's father heart for us utterly transforming - I was never the same again! I can't recommend it highly enough. What is God like? Does He really care for people today? In his work on three continents Floyd McClung has met many people who suffer from emotional scars and fears. Over and over again it has been the discovery of God as Father - perfectly reliable, unlike any human parent - that has brought freedom and healing. A classic introduction to God's love, written for those in need and for those who wish to share that love with others.
